Hygiene and Preventive Care

Periodic check-ups should be performed at least twice a year, especially for patients who have undergone implant-supported restorative treatments.

During the initial visit and subsequent check-ups, hygiene and preventive treatments—such as tartar removal (scaling), polishing, etc.—are scheduled.

Tartar Removal (Scaling)

Plaque—a yellowish-white film composed of bacteria and food debris that accumulates primarily between teeth and along the gumline—constantly forms on the teeth; as it hardens, it turns into tartar (calculus).

If plaque and tartar are not removed, they can inflame the gums, leading to gingivitis. If left untreated, gingivitis can cause irreversible damage by destroying the supporting bone tissue, resulting in periodontitis and potential tooth loss.

This is why maintaining good oral hygiene through the daily use of a toothbrush, dental floss, and an oral irrigator is essential. Thorough cleaning is ensured through professional tartar removal (scaling), a procedure performed using ultrasonic instruments.
